Today, our kindergarten students were expected to match the things that some community helpers or neighborhood workers need in their jobs.
This is a conversation that took place before we started matching pictures.
Me: Today, we are going to talk about some community helpers, and the things that they need to do their jobs. What do you think is his job? Marie? (pointing to the picture)
Marie: a doctor
Me: Good job Marie! Now, which one do you think the doctor needs for his job? John?
John: pointed to the stethoscope.
Me: Excellent John, we call this stethoscope. Say stethoscope...(repitition) Now, look at the next picture, what do you think is his job? Fanny?
Fanny: Policeman??? )smiling....
Me: That's right! This is a policeman or a police officer. Now, which one do you think the policeman needs for his job? (Expecting her to point to picture of a baton)
Fanny: (looking at me with his cutest smile) potato?
Me: Do you see that picture here? Can you point to the picture please?
Fanny: (Started giggling, still not pointing to the right picture) potato or tomato????
Me: Do you think the policeman needs potato or tomato to do his job?
Fanny: (She kept smiling, and slowly nodded...)
Me: Okay, perhaps you think that a policeman needs to eat tomato or potato before doing his job, right?
Fanny, just nodded again. I know she was just pulling my legs because she is one of the advanced kids in our class, and she knows how to express herself. She was just being silly today.
Another student pointed to the right object. At the end of the class, I was smiling because this girl's face is just so cute. I don't know why she was really thinking that a policeman needs potato or tomato to do his job! Is there a TV show about policemen with potatoes or tomatoes?
