Happy Dragon Boat Festival China!

Today China celebrates The Dragon Boat Festival or Duanwu Festival. It occurs on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese Lunar calendar. This year, it falls on May 28. The focus of the celebrations includes eating zongzi,(it's like rice dumplings) which are large rice wraps, drinking realgar wine, and racing dragon boats. I have been invited to attend a party last week and we ate this traditional food, zongzi, a glutinous rice wrap in a green leaf with meat and dates inside. It's like the traditional food "suman" that we have in the Philippines, which reminds me of All Souls Day food. Some of zongzi had some red pepper in them, and some students got some presents for getting this "surprise" red pepper. They got some giveaways which has some chocolates on them just like the wedding giveaways they usually have. At the end of the party I got all of their presents. They said it's my first time to experience this festival so they wanted me to have all the presents they received. I already got a few boxes of chocolates in my room, they just stay there since I rarely eat chocolate. I don't have a sweet tooth but I love to look at them since they are wrapped in a small and beautiful boxes.
I'm going to Suzhou and see if there would be some Dragon Boat racing in the Canals and rivers.
